The Future of Double Laser Beams: Controlling Weather

Controlling the weather may not be seen in the classic plot of comics. Central Florida University has been studying this and said that they may have found a way to do this by using dual laser beams. Condensation, lightning, and storm activity are all related to a considerable number of statically charged particles. Exciting these particles with the appropriate kind of laser may cause extreme cases.

The researchers report that natural photonics describes how the laser beam with the second beam prevents the necessary energy dissipation in the cloud to stimulate charged particles. The high-intensity laser can travel hundreds of miles, "when the laser beam becomes strong enough, it behaves differently than usual, it folds inwards itself," said study author Matthew Mills. "The crash has become so intense that the oxygen and nitrogen electrons in the air are ripped off, creating a plasma that is basically a mass."
When this happens, the laser beam pushes back, creating a mutual impact between propagating and folding ultrashort laser pulses. Known as filiform, the tension helps to create a filament or "string of light" that only temporarily develops until the characteristics of the air disperse the beam. The research team stated that other potential uses include long-range sensors and spectrometers to identify the chemical composition of objects.
