Office LED lighting is expected to achieve network communication

Japan's OutstandingTechnology announced on August 18, 2014 that it will begin mass production of the network communication system VisiLink, which transmits information through the blinking of LEDs (light-emitting diodes). In terms of form, a wireless LAN type product such as an LED hub that can be used as an Ethernet hub on an office ceiling is prepared. It is planned to start the sales evaluation version in September 2014 and the product version will be sold in March 2015. VisiLink is a visible light network communication system that uses LED flicker as a signal. Technically, the problem of insufficient bandwidth, electromagnetic interference, and safety in communication using radio waves has been solved. The standardization of such visible light communication systems is still in a state of chaos, and the company will use its own specifications to promote commercialization and mass production. First, two products with different uses will be introduced, namely wireless LAN type and FA type. The former uses multiple lighting on the ceiling of the office to connect multiple PCs to the network. That is to say, ceiling lighting can be used as a wireless LAN access point. The latter is envisaged for use in the factory as well as in the equipment, allowing two-way communication between the two units. From the OS, there is no need for a dedicated device driver when using VisiLink like a wired Ethernet adapter. The device for transmitting and receiving visible light is connected to a personal computer via USB. The device has a mechanism for converting wired Ethernet and visible light, and can be operated as a USB-connected universal wired Ethernet adapter from the perspective of the OS. The product versions of the above two models are available in March 2015. Prior to this, the first version of the evaluation version will be launched in September 2014 and the second version will be launched in December. The wireless LAN type can be used as an Ethernet hub for LED lighting installed on the ceiling of an office. In terms of composition and price, the parent machine (LED lighting) installed on the ceiling is 250,000 yen (about 12,500 yuan), and the USB terminal required for the personal computer is 10,000 yen (about 500 yuan). The communication distance is 1 meter to 5 meters, and the communication speed is 5 Mbps to 20 Mbps. The FA type is a USB-connected box type device that is supposed to be installed in a factory or an embedded device, and can communicate bidirectionally between two devices. In terms of price, the two sets are 250,000 yen. The communication distance is 0.1 meters to 100 meters, and the communication speed is 1 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
