As of May 29, Yangzi Petrochemical 's paraxylene (PX) demonstration plant produced PDEB products for 40 days. Currently, the plant operates stably. The purity of PDEB products is as high as 99.5%, reaching the international advanced level. Yangzi Petrochemical has therefore become the first company in China to produce PDEB products using adsorptive separation technology. The designed capacity of the device is 20,000 tons/year, which can basically meet the needs of the domestic market and export.
The successful operation of this device not only provides technical reference and practical experience for the production of PDEB process by domestic adsorption separation method, but also provides a better economical operation mode for the long-term operation of domestic PX demonstration devices, and it is also a new type of xylene for the future. The development of isomerization catalysts provides test conditions for industrial applications.
According to reports, PDEB is a desorption agent for the production of PX by the adsorption and separation process of aromatics, and it is also the main raw material for the production of PX, which has a high market value. In recent years, with the rapid development of the domestic economy, China has become the largest consumer of PX, but PDEB, the main raw material for the production of PX, is in short supply.
At present, the technologies for foreign production of PDEB mainly include direct synthesis and adsorption separation. The former uses ethylbenzene, ethylene, and ethanol as raw materials, plus appropriate catalysts to react to generate PDEB. This method has a low single-pass conversion rate, a large amount of material circulation, and high energy consumption, and the raw material ethylbenzene used is also a product with higher value. The latter is obtained by separating the PDEB directly from the by-product mixed diethylbenzene of the styrene device by means of separation, with a small amount of material circulation, low energy consumption, high product purity, and good market efficiency.
However, due to foreign technical barriers, PDEB companies have been using the direct synthesis method to produce PDEB. It not only has the problems of low one-way conversion rate, large amount of material circulation and high energy consumption, but also has a small scale of production, generally below the 1,000-ton level. The purity of PDEB is also below 98%, and the products lack competitiveness in the international market.
With regard to the foreign technology blockade, Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd., together with the China Petrochemical Research Institute, Sinopec Catalyst Branch, and Sinopec Engineering Company, joined forces to carry out technological research and eventually successfully overcome the technical barriers to adsorption and separation, and eventually formed independent intellectual property rights. Aromatics complete sets of technologies. Yangzi Petrochemical completed the PX demonstration plant at the end of last year. On April 18 of this year, the first batch of PDEB products was successfully produced using the adsorption separation method.
