Thunder received a $115.5 million near-weapon system upgrade order
Recently, Raytheon and the US Navy signed a contract worth US$115.5 million to upgrade the US Navy’s “dense array” near-defense weapon system. The contract deadline is September 2017. The "Halam" missile system installed in the US Navy "Independence" and "Colorado" can form a ship's inner air defense system against threats such as anti-ship missiles, helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft.
The "Herram" system uses the "sense array" of Block IB's improved sensors, replacing the 20mm guns in the traditional "dense array" system with 11-packaged rolling missiles. In September last year, Raytheon signed a $136 million contract with the US Navy to upgrade 19 Mk 15 "dense array" systems, including the development of four "Helam" systems.
Raytheon has developed more than 890 "Halamam" systems and is currently deployed in naval vessels in 25 countries.
