According to foreign media reports, the Volkswagen Group stated that as part of the investigation of the emissions gate incident, its global headquarters was once again searched by German prosecutors in early March.
The German Economic Weekly reported on Tuesday that German prosecutors suspected the existence of market manipulation by the Volkswagen Group and therefore launched a new investigation to determine if the public concealed more CO2 emissions from vehicles.
In early March, the prosecutor of Brunswick, the capital of Lower Saxony, conducted a search of thirteen offices annexed to Volkswagen's headquarters and will investigate the documents and computer files collected in the coming weeks.
The prosecutor stated that they were verifying the public’s statement issued on December 9, 2015, and doubted its content was false, and whether it therefore stated that it had market manipulation. In December 2015, Volkswagen stated that the internal investigation revealed that the company had understated fuel consumption and announced that there was an excess of CO2 emissions in up to 36,000 vehicles. This is much lower than the approximately 800,000 vehicles announced five weeks ago.
Volkswagen also said that it has not found any evidence to show that it has tampered with CO2 emission data, which will relieve pressure on the challenges of the emissions door scandal. The German Economic Weekly quoted the public saying that the public stated that they meet the requirements of such regulatory rules.
A spokesman for Volkswagen only confirmed the latest survey of Wolfsburg, but declined to give further comments. The prosecutor’s office in Brunswick was unable to provide timely comments before the press release.
