National Energy Administration: China's Energy Short-term Surplus

Wang Siqiang, deputy director general of the National Energy Administration, said on December 12 that the financial crisis will lead to China’s short-term energy surplus.

China’s electricity demand in October decreased by 4.6% year-on-year. Wang Siqiang said that in November this figure will have a greater decline.

Wang Siqiang mentioned that in some provinces in China, such as Ningxia and Guizhou, electricity demand has dropped by more than 30%. He also said that too many coal power projects to be built and under construction next year are also a cause of excess electricity.

Experts predict that China's installed power capacity will exceed 800 million kilowatts next year.
