IPC code rate
The code rate of the camera is the bandwidth of the surveillance video stream, which is divided into the main code stream and the sub-code stream. The main code stream is used for storage, and the sub-code stream is generally used for previewing. The code rate varies with different resolutions/frame rates and picture effects. By default, the camera main code rate of 1080P is 4M, and the main code rate of 720P is 2M.
Hard drive capacity
That is, the storage space of the hard disk is generally 500G/1T/2T/4T/6T, 1T=1024G, 1G=1024M, and the storage capacity of the general monitoring hardware exceeds 1T. It should be noted that the actual capacity of the hard disk for storing video is 90% of the total capacity, that is, the capacity factor is 0.9.

Calculation method:
One-day recording size = main stream (M) ÷ 8 × 3600 (seconds) × 24 (hours) × number of channels ÷ 1024 recording days = hard disk capacity (G) × 1024 × coefficient × 8 ÷ 3600 (seconds) ÷ 24 ( Time) main stream (M) channel number
Such as: 1 1080P camera, 4M main stream of the day video size: 4 ÷ 8 × 3600 × 24 × 1 = 43200M ≈ 42GB

Note: In the actual engineering environment, multiple types of cameras may be used in combination and the calculation methods are similar.
According to the above calculations, if there are 4 720P (main stream 2M) cameras, the surveillance video needs to be stored for 7 days, so the storage capacity of the hard disk needs to be at least 7 × 84 GB = 588 GB. At this time, it is recommended to purchase a hard disk with a capacity of more than 1T. Similarly, if there are four 720P cameras, the monitoring video needs to be stored for one month (30 days), you need hard disk capacity of 30 × 84GB = 2520GB, it is recommended to buy more than 3TB hard drive.
