Recently, the Key Laboratory of Ion Beam Bioengineering of the Hefei Institute of Materials Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has achieved a major breakthrough in the production of controlled-release fertilizer technology at low cost. This result is expected to fundamentally solve the backward state of China's chemical fertilizer production and use technology.
The experts identified that the innovation of this technology is to develop a new environmentally friendly, low-cost, solvent-free nitrogen fertilizer slow release material, in order to achieve the "controlled release" of nitrogen fertilizer. The main raw materials of this material are natural minerals and biological materials. Not only does it have good controlled release effect of nitrogen fertilizer, but also it has the characteristics of environmental protection, natural degradation, and long-term application that can improve soil physical and chemical properties, increase soil fertility and water retention capacity.
For a long time, due to the backwardness of traditional fertilizer production and use technology in China, the farmland utilization rate of fertilizer is only about 35%, which not only causes huge losses of 100 billion yuan per year, but also brings about damage to the environment and waste of resources.
