Assembly problem causes engine unable to launch mass recall of over 30,000 beetles

Yesterday, Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. issued a recall announcement and decided to recall a total of 35,386 imported 2012-2015 beetle series vehicles starting October 15, 2018.

The reason for the recall is that the grounding bus installed on the bottom of the gearbox is too short and too tight. When the vehicle moves, it may be supported by the gearbox. As a result, the connection is subjected to additional tension and the grounding busbar is broken, causing the engine to fail to start. Security risks.

In response, Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. will entrust Volkswagen brand import vehicle authorized distributors to replace the improved grounded busbars with flexible materials and extensions for the vehicles in the area concerned to eliminate potential safety hazards.

In addition, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. and Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. also announced on the same day a recall announcement involving 4 vehicles (3 Audi A3 and 1 Golf Travel Edition).

The reason for the recall was that when an airbag was deployed in front of a vehicle of the same type in an overseas market, the airbags in front of the front passengers broke down, posing a potential safety hazard. To further clarify the root cause of this case, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. and Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. will use this recall to recycle the parts produced in the same batch and replace the new front passenger airbags. As a result, more in-depth research and analysis are performed on the same batch of parts to eliminate potential safety hazards.
